Ferrari on the cheap 🤔 #pininfarina #projectcar #ferrariclub #cartok #tiktokautocampaign The Ferrari 400i, produced from 1979 to 1985, was a luxurious 2+2 grand tourer known for its understated and angular design by Pininfarina. It was a fuel-injected version of the earlier 400, distinguished by the "i" in its name. It featured a front-mounted 4.8-liter V12 engine, a configuration that was a staple for Ferrari's grand touring models.

The 400i is notable for being one of the first production Ferraris offered with an automatic transmission, a three-speed unit sourced from General Motors, which proved popular with buyers. While it wasn't officially imported to the United States due to emissions and safety regulations, many found their way to the country through the "grey market." The 400i represented a shift towards more refined, everyday usability for Ferrari, a move that was initially controversial among purists but ultimately made the car more accessible to a wider market.

Memories : 1973 Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2 - UAE

 Via Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/DNkgMLhoN_b/

250 SWB Ltd …. 1973 Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2. 17313. Supplied new in the UAE and imported into the UK in the 1980’s. Painted in Blu Scuro with Beige VM3234 hides.
My love of all historic 12 cyl Ferrari 2+2’s I think is now well known but this car was exceptional. A one owner car that had been serviced regularly by Maranello Concessionaires since entering the country and it showed what I believe was a genuine mileage of 22,000KMS. The interior was unworn and the original paint blemish free. In 1999 I was offered the car by a wealthy Arabic family who lived in the same street as my garage. They had often seen me photographing cars in the mews by their house. I also ended up buying their Silver S3 Continental Bentley and a White DBV8 Aston Martin Volante, both also LHD, which they had again owned from new. They were only selling as were relocating to the USA. The Bentley and Aston were swiftly sold into the trade but I was very proud to offer the Ferrari in my adds. Surprisingly it took almost a year to sell and was eventually exported to Denmark.

Auction Sotheby's - 1981 Ferrari 400i Manual - VIN 33847 - 1525 km -

Wow, what a special one! Sold for $184,800 USD

https://rmsothebys.com/auctions/mo25/lots/r0092-1981-ferrari-400i

Unveiled at the 1979 Turin Motor Show, the Ferrari 400i marked a refined evolution of Maranello’s grand tourer with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection replacing the earlier carburetors for improved drivability and emissions compliance without compromising Ferrari’s hallmark performance. Beneath its crisply tailored Pininfarina bodywork lay a front-mounted 4.8-liter V-12 factory rated at around 310 horsepower, delivered seamlessly through either a five-speed manual or, more unusually for Ferrari, a three-speed General Motors-sourced automatic gearbox. The 400i offered 2+2 accommodation with a level of comfort and practicality rare among Ferraris, including leather-clad interiors, air conditioning, and electric windows as standard. Though often overlooked in favor of its mid-engined contemporaries, the 400i was a true gentleman’s express, blending understated sophistication with genuine high-speed touring capability.

The 400i offered here, chassis 33847, certainly ranks among the most well-preserved examples extant, displaying just over 1,525 kilometers (~948 miles) at cataloguing. Cloaked in Nero Tropicale over Pelle Beige leather trim, this European-specification 400i is one of approximately 422 400i specified with the desirable five-speed manual gearbox.

According to its original warranty booklet, the car was delivered new on 22 May 1981 by Tayre of Madrid to its first owner, a resident of Altea on Spain’s Mediterranean Coast. There, chassis 33847 enjoyed a careful life of sparing use before reportedly changing hands in 1989. It remained cherished under long-term ownership until its acquisition by the consignor in 2025. Immediately upon purchase, the car was treated to a nearly $10,000 service by Francorchamps of America in Costa Mesa, California, including new fuel heads, thermostat, and fan switch, along with an engine and radiator flush. Most recently, paint meter readings conducted across the car have indicated the presence of a factory-applied finish. The car’s original warranty booklet and period registration document copies complete the sale.

Today, the 400i stands as one of Ferrari’s best-kept secrets, a grand tourer combining V-12 charisma, genuine usability, and period-correct elegance, with this example, boasting unrepeatable preservation and just 1,525 kilometers at cataloguing, certain to enhance any discerning collection.

Maranello Concessionaires … 1981 Ferrari 400i auto - SAY 400

 Via Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/DNVA3fOozGJ/

Love these stories:

Maranello Concessionaires … 1981 Ferrari 400i auto. Painted in Argento with Dark Blue VM3282 hides. It was previously the Sales demo car and registered SAY 400 but at the time of this photo it had been replaced and put into stock. The registration changing to OPC 106W. For the life of me I can’t connect a chassis number to it.
Regardless, I was using it one weekend when I was invited to the Guards Polo Club by some good friends. Polo is not my scene but I went as I’d never been to a Polo match and a friend was competing.
On arrival I had no idea where to park but I saw an Aston Martin DB6 Volante in the field and thought if that’s safe there so will the Ferrari be. It wasn’t until I’d got out of the car that I realised I’d parked next to the then Prince of Wales. No security guards or anything but I recognised the number plate EBY 776J. It had been frequently in the newspapers after his recent marriage to Diana.
My feverish brain worked overtime with thoughts of his wandering across to view the Ferrari. There would be lots of brownie points for me if I could persuade him to take our latest demo car on trial and who knows perhaps order a new car. Sadly I was dreaming. I sat with the car the entire afternoon until late in the day one of his retinue appeared and drove off presumably to deliver to him. What might have been …
Interestingly the Royal household were often lent cars for ‘approval’. This was always at the Colonel’s bequest so no idea how it evolved. The loan was usually for about 3 weeks before we were asked to collect the car. The only exception being the Mondial 8 when the call to collect came within 48 hours. Prince Michael of Kent did purchase a Dino in the very early 1970’s but other than that they never bought anything. I think the Colonel just liked the idea of members of the Royal family driving his cars. #ferrari #ferrari400i #maranelloconcessionaires #princeofwales #kingcharles #astonmartindb6 #guardspoloclub #royalfamily #ferrariuk #ferrariaustralia#ferrariusa #ferrarifrance #ferrarijapan

Youtube - Tom Yang - Ferrari 400i Disaster Averted? - Water in the oil

Tom Yang strikes again. Another good learning video.

Also the YT comments can be informative as one person mentioned another possibility for this issue: WATER IN THE OIL ARE THE ORINGS UNDER THE OIL FILTER. This wasn't the case in this scenario though ..

A 1985 Ferrari 400i arrived at my shop after the owner told me he had a blown head gasket. I had my suspicions and was hopeful it could be something else. I test, check, and diagnose the problem, then show how I came to the conclusion and repaired of this old Ferrari. #tomyangnet   / tomyang.net     / tomyangnet

It's unknown to me which year and where but I suspect the IAA motorshow either 1972, 73, or 74.
(I was informed today it's Frankfurt IAA 1973)

This is of course about the Ferrari 365GT4 2+2 lurking in the background but I'm a huge liker of the Iso Fidia as well ... great photo. Currently being auctioned via:

 Enjoy this episode:

Ferrari 400GT Engine installation. I test some theories on how Ferrari originally installed these engines and proved myself wrong. Troubleshooting little issues to get this engine to run right. #tomyangnet   / tomyang.net     / tomyangnet
