Ieri sera Rai tv 1 ha trasmesso un programma turistico sulla Puglia.
Rivedere quei luoghi mi ha fatto ricordare un piacevole viaggio in compagniadi mia moglie Nicoletta in occasione di una festa di nozze di una coppia di Amici,appunto Vanda e Nicola Capano.
Era il 1967 credo il mese di ottobre,Nella Cattedrale di Trani celebrarono la loro unione questi nostri amici.
A cerimonia terminata,fuori dalla Cattedrale oltre parenti ed amici ad attendre gli sposi un nutrito gruppo di Carabinieri in Alta Uniforme per l'occasione con le sciabole costruirono un arco sotto il quale passarono i novelli Coniugi.Il tutto avvenne all'imbrunire,mentre il sole tramontava ed il mare Adriatico alle spalle della Cattedrale Romanica faceva da cornice ad una sceneggiatura da fiaba.
Per l'occasione facemmo il viaggio con una comoda 365 gt4 2+2 colore argento.L'auto mi era stata segnalata per l'occasione dal Commendatore.Era stataacquistata da un Suo Amico personale,il Conte Franco Grandi di Modena il quale quasi sempre era in Brasile per lavoro e mai utilizzava tale auto.La vettura data la particolare amiciziadel proprietario con Enzo Ferrari veniva custodita assieme alle auto personali del Commendatore in via Trento Trieste presso la sede della Ferrari.
E fu proprio li che il buon Florini me la fece vedere e provare.
Era sicuramente una buona occasione,me ne innamorai,e l'affare venne concluso.
Il viaggio fu piacevole fatta eccezione di una quasi rituale brontolatadi mia moglie per un passo troppo veloce.Nella foresta Umbra ,rischi ammo ,quasi di litigare,ma il viaggio poi ando'per il meglio.
Durante le varie escursioni che riuscimmo a fare in tale occasione,mi capito'a Bari di essermi accorto di avere sbagliato strada.In circonvallazione mi fermai presso una pattuglia della Polizia stradale .Mi venne detto che avrei dovuto ritornare indietro,ma per un lungo tratto non si poteva fare inversione.E qui accadde che il capo pattuglia sensibile al marchio del Cavallino,mi disse:Se mi fa'una bella partenza le permetto di fare inversione di marcia qui.Non me lo feci dire due volte.Fermarono il traffico nei due sensi di marcia,eravamo in una ampia semicurva a riga continua,Ringraziai e salendo a bordo stile 24 ore di Lemans,prima marcia e grande sgommata a terra e il 12 cilindri ci fece tutti contenti.
Feci con questa automobile quasi 80.000km per poi venderla ad un noto pittore Italiano tutt'ora vivente Sandro Chia un artista famoso nella transavanguardia il quale quando combinammo l'auto mi propose un Suo quadro in permuta,che io rifiutai in cambio del vil denaro.
Ebbi occasione di rivederlo di li a qualche anno ad una Sua mostra di opere a Modena,mi venne incontro salutandomi,e ridendo mi disse che le Sue opere erano entrate nel museo di arte moderna a New York e costavano dieci volte tanto.Sorrisi per sola educazione,ma .........
Oggi questa auto e'ancora con il Pittore che dopo essersi sposato con Marella Agnelli recentemente passata a miglio vita,si stabili nella zona del Brunello di Montalcino diventando uno dei piu ricercati produttori di quel vino.
Una visita nella azienda vinicola mi fece rivedere il 365,provando un po'di nostalgia.

The car, given the particular friendship of the owner with Enzo Ferrari, was kept together with the Commendatore's personal cars in via Trento Trieste at the Ferrari headquarters.

It was certainly a good opportunity, I fell in love with it, and the deal was concluded.
The journey was pleasant except for an almost ritual grumbling of my wife for a step too fast. In the Umbrian forest, I took risks, almost to quarrel, but the journey then went for the best.
During the various excursions that we managed to do on that occasion, I realized that in Bari I realized I had the wrong road. On the ring road I stopped at a patrol of the traffic police. A visit to the winery made me revisit the 365, feeling a bit of nostalgia.

Ferrari 412 / 400i Pavesi convertible scale model + MANY MORE!

When I visited Otto's place and saw his scale model collection I spotted this unusual Ferrari 412 convertible by Pavesi model:

And somehow I never spotted this scale model before. So when I checked today I found it:

Despite it's listed as a 412 (both magazine & scale model) it is a 400i nevertheless. Typical that even this one-off is available as a scale model.

(West) Palm Beach - Ferrari 400i Automatic

Due to my holiday leave it has been quiet the past weeks. In fact sourcing new material has become a difficulty after 5 years of scavenging. As such the the frequency of blog updates have been declining over the last year as well. So be it, let's see how much more I can squeeze out.

In any case, during my holiday leave I have met up with an interesting owner of a special 400. Once my Florida roadtrip with the family became firm I reached out to him to see if a quick meet and greet would be possible.

It turned out this was possible as he kindly freed up time to make this happen. The plan was to meet up at the nearby outlet stores. Meaning the family could go shopping while I could escape and socialize.

All was agreed and communicated. When waiting on the parking space I could see him driving from a distance. Such a great sight to see a 400 driving in traffic. It really is an unique sight, even more in the USA I would say.

It was however a strange experience since this 400 is equipped with a V8 Chevy engine. Something I have never witnessed before. It sounded very good though but clearly can't be compared with the original V12. I have to admit I'm a liker of American muscle cars, so there you go. American V8 engines are cool. It's for good reasons that Iso, de Tomaso, Monteverdi, Jensen did had their cars equipped with American V8 engines.

And maybe more important, due to this also the upgraded airco system was functioning very good. A necessity in this area. The interior upholstery was completely renewed and very well done. In fact what has not been done on this car. So I got a little tour around the area which had indeed some posh locations. A natural habitat for the 400. For the record we did stop at the gates of Trump's Mar-a-Lago country house. Apologies for my tourist outfit.


We had a good lunch at ER Bradley's saloon and enjoyed the cold Peroni's


Afterwards I had a visit at his house to have more car chat and see more cars and memorabilia. The model car collection was impressive, even though I don't collect these myself. But seeing this unique 400 model car collection I got a bit greedy though.


Then hitting the road again but one spot was forgotten; The Breakers which is the location of the Cavallino Classic Concorso at Palm Beach. So we quickly went there:



What a nice place and scenery. A perfect spot for the 400. Would be great to see 400's awarded on the upcoming Concorso's.

This little break out was a very nice addition on my last day of my holiday, it could not have ended any better.

It was a true pleasure to meet up and share the passion. Car aficionados united. 

Otto, thanks once more for the hospitality and congrats on the great end result of your car. It was a wonderful ride! And yes, credits to Michel the mechanic as well!
