Magazine - Dutch - Autoweek nr 1 2024 - Designtaal - Elegant gelijnde hoop in bange dagen - Ivo Groen

Someone pointed out to me the following article in the Dutch magazine Autoweek classics. It's a small article from a Dutch designer who moved to the USA at the age of 13, his name is Ivo Groen. It's a relatively small article but nevertheless interesting. He remarks that Gianni Agnelli gave Ferrari and Pininfarina the order to create a car so he could take the missus to the Opera in a stylish manner and without provoking the audience. According to Sig. Fioravanti he got the order from Enzo himself:

"When the new model (365GT4 2+2) was discussed with the Commendatore he cited various clients like Pietro Barilla or Herbert von Karajan, a sublime orchestral director who felt that the sound of a Ferrari V12 was a "kind of symphony" as the revs rose! As such it was concluded that the new model should be a Ferrari that you could drive to La Scala in Milan."

So I'm unsure if Agnelli had given any direct design orders regarding the development of the Ferrari 365GT4 2+2. But this is how these stories develope and start leading their own life. The article has some other nice linkage to the same styling elements used on a few more interesting cars.

Since it's holiday season and if you like the styling part you might want to consider to read this old triology I wrote in the past:

1) https://erwin400.blogspot.com/2014/12/ferrari-400-design-pininfarina-leonardo.html

2) https://erwin400.blogspot.com/2015/08/design-story-part-ii-pininfarina-paolo.html

3) https://erwin400.blogspot.com/2016/05/design-story-part-iii-fioravanti.html

I thought I had included some more car examples, but I didn't. Instead I made a reference to this page: https://fiat130.nl/130-coupe-look-a-likes/  I'm surprised myself I did not include the Lancia Gamma Coupe and the Lancia Marica in my design triology. Oh well.
