I spotted this on Ebay and never seen a new one before. So yes, I bought it instantly, another trophee to put in the display cabinet. To bad the Pininfarina plastic bag was not complete with the full name print on it. Oh well.

A great review posted on Youtube today:

And I remembered a blog about a USA owner having this rare set of a Gamma Coupe, Fiat 130 Coupe and a Ferrari 400. Found the blog, dating back to 2014. Guess that must be the same owner:

For those interested in the unique black on black manual 400i in the latest Nicolas Cage movie.
Well, it's likely this one and for sale:

And it does have another connection to the film industry as apparently it was previously owned by film executive Sanford Panitch.
1983 Ferrari 400i
Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale is thrilled to offer this incredible Ferrari 400i. Part of our Private Collection, the owner of the dealership has over 30 beautiful and rare vintage Ferrari models. The 400i is in excellent classic driver, and it is now being offered to a new home.
- Attractively finished in Nero over Nero
- Imported to California when new
- Powered by a 4.8-liter V-12 engine and five-speed manual transmission
- One of just 422 examples so equipped between 1979 and 1985
- Benefits from a comprehensive mechanical servicing in preparation for sale
At the 1976 Paris Auto Salon, Ferrari introduced the new 400 2+2, its replacement for the 365 GT4 2+2. Featuring distinctively angular styling by Pininfarina, the 400 continued to provide luxurious and spacious high-speed transportation for up to four passengers, powered by a front-mounted 4.8-liter V-12 engine with dual overhead camshafts. Precise handling was provided by power steering and a fully independent suspension with self-leveling actuators at the rear. Fuel injection was added in 1979-thereby creating the 400i, and by 1982, Ferrari had also revised the interior upholstery, switchgear, and bodywork to its final form. These post-update examples also received re-profiled camshafts, new headers, and reworked fuel management which together boosted peak performance up to 315 horsepower.
This attractive 1983 example is finished in a handsome monochrome Nero livery, and was imported when new to California by Ferrari Compliance, Inc. of Santa Ana. Retained by several owners within Southern California, this stately 400i was previously owned by film executive Sanford Panitch.
Invoices on file show that it was recently refinished in its factory-correct shade of Nero. In addition, the fuel injection system was completely addressed prior to a proper tuning. The engine valve cover were also repainted, and much of the hardware fittings were professionally re-plated to their factory-correct finish.
Complemented by a set of correct five-spoke magnesium wheels and Michelin TRX tires, this 400i is accompanied by tools, manuals, spare wheel, and service invoices. With its handsome Pininfarina bodywork and refined road handling, the 400 has recently attracted the attention of astute Ferrari collectors and enthusiasts alike and they are widely regarded as very capable grand touring machines.

I was triggered by an Instagram post and I see it's already listed on their website:

And someone did make some captures of the movie scenes as well.

I thought I recognized it, it's very likely the same one as spotted in this blog:
A special edition with a few articles regarding Ferrari including the 400i. Not a great article though so just for the records. It's available in the download section. Viel spass.

Update: 17-7-2022; found this photo, not sure if it's the same car?
I obtained this brochure published by HR Owen. It does contain a lot info about the high end cars they sell. Including a 2 pager about the new Ferrari 400 Automatic. I only scanned these pages and converted it into a pdf, available in the download section.
Interesting to read about the automatic usage in the city back then in the seventies. Still a valid argument and on the crowded (highway) roads these days as well. Also the performance of the automatic versus the manual is nicely pointed out. And it does even mention the sound of the engine which does not impede conversation nor listening to music.

Yesterday someone posted some (old) wedding photo's in our Facebook group which of course included a Ferrari 365GT4 2+2. I too spotted the license plate which were barely readable but saw it started with MO. Although interesting I didn't make any further enquiry but another close watcher spotted it too and remarked if the plate was indeed MO393333 and consequently used in the movie about Enzo Ferrari
(see blog: https://erwin400.blogspot.com/2014/07/ferrari-400-gt-course-stock-video-603.html)
Turns out this was the case indeed. The person who posted the photo's appeared to be the mechanic for the owner of this car (stating as wel he used the car often) The owner happened to be Fabrizio Violati. I had no idea who he was but this was found out easily: https://kidston.com/features/arrivederci-to-fabrizio-violati/
The indivuals on the photo happens to be friends of this mechanic. What a great story! (photo's taken in 1993).
